Horvath the Arch-Wizard, once a principal architect of the Staff of Oblivion, is now the head of the wizards residing in the Wizard's Tower in Castle Galava. Long ago, Horvath played a crucial role in ending the Necromancer war by helping Jandor create the Staff of Oblivion, a powerful artifact. Today, he continues to serve the wizarding community by training apprentices and managing the various affairs of Castle Galava, where the Heart of Nox, the second part of the Staff, is kept.
Horvath is a key figure in Jack's journey through the wizard route. He initially accepts Jack as his apprentice after his previous one perished to urchins. Later, when he is captured by ogres, Horvath is saved by Jack from the Ogre village of Grok Torr. In the end, Horvath makes the ultimate sacrifice, giving his life to allow Jack to escape from Hecubah’s clutches, securing Jack’s path to defeat her and protect Nox. Horvath does not appear in the warrior route, but his impact on the wizard's path is profound and heroic.
