The Land of Nox is the place where the most of the story happens. Jack got there through the magical portal created by Hecubah to get the Orb which was in Jack's possession.
Ancient History and the Lost City[]
The ancient history of Nox is largely forgotten, with few records surviving the ages. The grand underground city that once stood where Dün Mir now lies has been long lost. This legendary city, a marvel of human ingenuity, is remembered in myth but has left no trace that can be definitively linked to its location. No monuments exist in Dün Mir to recall the city's mastery over the shadowed mountain passages.
The names and dates of once-mighty empires have faded into oblivion. Whatever grand civilizations preceded the current inhabitants of Nox, their stories have all but disappeared from contemporary consciousness. For most, the early history of Nox seems a distant, irrelevant curiosity, with legends from that time failing to spark more than a faint glimmer of interest.
The Necromancer's War[]
One event in Nox’s history looms larger than most others: the Necromancer war. This dark chapter in Nox's past is still discussed by the elders of its people, although its grim details have become so ingrained in daily speech that it often fails to inspire the fear it once did. However, the terror of necromancers—those capable of raising the dead to form armies of soulless abominations—continues to haunt the collective memory of Nox.
As legend has it, the rise of the Necromancers of the North was foretold by celestial omens: blazing stars and strange lunar movements. Some believe that unnatural storms accompanied the births of each necromancer lord. The terror of their dominion spread southward, as they forced the dead from their graves to swell their undead forces. Their victims were not only the risen dead, but also living captives, who were taken in chains to the North for unspeakable purposes.
Heroes of the War: Jandor, Horvath, and Aldwyn[]
The eventual end of the Necromancer’s War came at the hands of three great heroes: Jandor, Horvath, and Aldwyn. Jandor, in particular, led the charge against the necromancers, wielding the legendary Staff of Oblivion. With this powerful weapon, Jandor liberated villages, stood his ground against hordes of undead on the Field of Valor, and faced the Necromancers in battle, absorbing their very souls through the staff's arcane might.
Though young and inexperienced at the outset of his journey, Jandor's exploits earned him a place in legend. Despite his accomplishments, the burden of being a hero took its toll. After the war, suspicion grew around him, as some feared the dark power he had wielded might have tainted him. In an effort to ease these fears, Jandor dismantled the Staff of Oblivion and gave its pieces to the three major powers of Nox: Galava, Dün Mir, and Ix.
Despite his efforts, trust in him waned. For thirty years, Jandor has been absent from public view, his fate unknown. Some believe he perished in foreign lands, while others speculate that he may have become a ruler in a distant country more appreciative of his deeds.
Horvath, the great wizard, took up residence in Castle Galava, training future generations of wizards. Aldwyn, once Jandor’s close companion, retired to a life of seclusion near Ix, preferring the company of conjured creatures to that of men.
Present Fears and Rumors[]
Though the Necromancer’s War ended decades ago, unease remains. Disquieting rumors persist—strange events occurring in the mana mines, people disappearing, and whispers of a child born of necromancer blood. Some fear the old darkness may be stirring once again, despite the efforts of the great heroes of the past. While the people of Nox live in peace, they remain watchful for signs of the return of the terror that once gripped their land.
